Trip to Monterey

I'm not going to upload any of our 3-D videos because they would take to long to upload. We went on some crazy rides today. Left Beverly Hills at 7:45 this morning on a ride to Monterey Bay. Got to the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) quickly and enjoyed a nice ride up from Santa Monica to Malibu. Lots of bikes out today since the weather was great. Malibu has some huge homes with great views both on the mountains and on the beach. My GPS may have been a bit confused today because it took us off and onto some other interesting roads. We took  CA-26, CA 150 and finally CA-33. These rides made our ride on Tail of the Dragon in Deals Gap, TN look like a quick ride down our driveway. While Deals Gap has 316 switchback turns over 11 miles, this must have had over 400 for over 50 miles. Diane was elated and yet terrified. The scenes and views were phenomenal. I guess we must have been in the Sierra Nevada range (not the beer). There were times when I became a bit uneasy knowing there were only mountains around us and no way out. This was croctch rocket heaven. We did endure and had a record of 3.5 continuous hrs on the bike without ever stopping. I didn't know I could do it. We went through some great towns like OJAI (look it up). Not sure how it's pronounced, but a very nice community. After that (we didn't stop there) we had to go for hours until we could find a gas station and place to get off and stretch. That would be in Manicopa, CA. Took our first break there and realized the GPS was going a bit wacky. Reprogrammed to head to the coast. It took us down 33 a bit more until 46. Better known as the Petroleum Highway (look it up). There were more oil rigs than I've ever seen even in Texas. More than the windmills we saw in Palm Springs yesterday. Weird to see oil wells and then an orange grove right next to it. We did stop again in Paso Nobeles for some water before getting on 46W to the coast. Went past Hearst Castle and up CA-1. That was another crazy ride of switchback turns and mountain climbs. Not to bore you with too many more details, we went past the Elephant Seals, Morro Bay, Big Sur (paid over $5.50 for gas there----big rip off) and finally to Carmel and Monterey. Many sightseers out today and many cautious drivers staying at least 10-15 MPH below the speed limit. Got into Monterey after 424 miles and around 10 hours on the bike. Most of the time was spent on the bike. To cap things off, Diane had sea legs (Harley Legs) after pulling up to the hotel. She tumbled again from the bike after we stopped. This time, I didn't drop the bike. Her leg just gave out after getting off. She was OK, though. The other thing was the difference in temperature. We left it was around 70F, we drove into 105F around Maricopa. Once we got the coast, it appeared as though someone put on the air conditioner. We arrived on the coldest day of the summer in Monterey. 60F. I hope tomorrow warms up.
